Three escapees re-arrested at Kongola

KATIMA MULILO – Police in Zambezi region have re-arrested three of 13 inmates who escaped from Kongola holding cells on Sunday evening. Most of the escapees are Zambian nationals.

The three escapees were all re-arrested in the Kongola area.

The incident happened when the inmates were being given supper.

Zambezi police spokesperson Kisco Sitali said the inmates overpowered the police officers who were on duty.

“They just overpowered them during dinner, and started running. Two were re-arrested at the time, and one was re-arrested later the same day,” he said.

He told the public to be vigilant about strange-looking persons who are not from their areas. “These inmates are different, as they are not wearing shoes, jeans or have trousers without belts, and might be looking for food. Such people should be reported to the nearest police station immediately,” Sitali urged.

The name-list of trial-awaiting inmates who escaped from the holding cells includes two male Zambian nationals. These are Imasiku Sitali and Kayo Shwena.

Other escapees are Matuso Thomas, Siyanga Nakweti, Muyunda Shadrick, Muyunda Mushe, John Mwelwa, Joe Mubone, Mwenda Muyunda and Lusho Ketano, all of them Zambian males.

Among the inmates are an Angolan, Kaumba Kaumba, and two Namibians, Taezo Kaine and Mashabangu Mateu.
