RUNDU – Three Namibian male suspects aged 26, 30 and 33 are due in court after they were arrested on Saturday night in Kavango West for illegal possession of a live pangolin and two elephant tusks.

“The trio were arrested at 21h30 at Ntara village for dealing and bieng found in possession of two pieces of elephant tusks as well as for dealing in or found in possession of a live pangolin that they captured from the forest
which they offered for sale without  a permit obtained from MEFT during the police action,” said the Kavango West police. According to the police, the value of a live pangolin is N$50 000, but the two pieces of elephant tusks was not yet determined at the time of going to print. “The suspects will appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court today, 29 August 2022,” the police said.

In a different case, a 32-year-old Namibian male suspect is also due for court after he was found by the Kavango West Police in possession of cannabis seeds on Thursday afternoon at Kaguni village during a police search. 

“The suspect will make his first appearance on 29 August 2022 in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court,”
the police noted.

Meanwhile, in Rundu, a case of stock-theft is being investigated by the police, where an 81-year-old pensioner reported his five cattle valued at N$40 000 stolen.

The police reported that the cattle were stolen at an unknown time on Thursday at Namagadi village, and only three cattle were recovered.  “The suspect is not yet arrested and not known at this stage,’’ police stated.
