WINDHOEK – A young child drowned in a well at Okalumba Village in the Oshikuku Constituency on Friday last week.
It was reported that the deceased followed her eight-year-old sister who was looking after goats and later fell into and drowned in the well near their homestead.
The deceased’s body was found by neighbouring children when they went to fetch water from the same well where the child had drowned.
The minor’s body was then taken to the Okahao police mortuary for an autopsy. The deceased was identified as Sabina Tashiya Shikongo, a two-year-old girl from Okalumbi Village and her next of kin have been notified about her demise.
In a similar tragedy, a three-year-old boy fell into and drowned in a canal at Ohambalanganga Village in Omusati Constituency. It was reported the deceased went after other kids who were herding livestock near the town of Outapi and fell in the canal. There was no one to come to his rescue.
The body was reported to have been found by a NamWater employee who was cleaning the canal at around 18h00 on Saturday.
His body was taken to Okahao police mortuary for autopsy.
The boy was identified as Amutenya Naftal, 3, from Ohambalanganga Village in Omusati Constituency.
His next of kin have been informed of his death.
