WINDHOEK – Two toddlers, one in the Omusati Region and the other in the Oshana Region, drowned in water containers over the weekend, according to a police report.

A three-year-old child drowned in a water container at Outapi in the Omusati Region, while an 11-month-old infant drowned in a water container at Olukonda in the Oshana Region. Although the details are still sketchy, police said the 3-year-old toddler drowned in a 60-litre water container at Omindamba, a village near Outapi. People found the child dead last Saturday at around 15h00.

On Friday at around 18h00, an 11-month-old infant, was found dead in a water container at Egulatula, a village in Olukonda, Chief Inspector Pretunilla Kauna Shikwambi told the regular Sunday media briefing yesterday. The infant has been identified as Selma Nangula Moses.

In other news, police say on Friday at 18h00 at Ozondje location, a 29-year-old man was arrested for dealing in cannabis, valued at N$27 720. The suspect is expected to appear in the Omaruru Magistrate’s Court today. On Saturday at around midnight in Windhoek’s Eveline Street at Masipili Bar, 22-year- old, Simeon Uugwanga was stabbed with a knife after an argument with a suspect. Uugwanga was rushed to the Katutura State Hospital, but died upon arrival. The culprit is still at large and the police are requesting anybody with information to come forward.

On Saturday at 04h30 in Wanaheda three suspects allegedly forced open the door of a house and gained entry. They held three women in the room at gunpoint and removed one flat screen television, one deep fridge and four cellphones. Two of the suspects believed to be of Zimbabwean origin were arrested and are expected to appear in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court today. All of the stolen items were recovered.

On Saturday at around 15h00 in the Ausblick area 24-year-old Lionel Liswaniso was found dead on the bed in his bedroom. The cause of death is being investigated by the police.

Also, on Friday in Omungwelume at around 02h00 at Lavender Bar in Okamukwa, four suspects allegedly held up the victim with a firearm, tied him up, broke down the shebeen door, damaged the gambling machine and stole N$4 676.05 in cash. All four suspects were arrested and are expected to appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court today.
