Former NovaNam employee the 46-year old Embrenzia Matroos needs a second operation as the seemingly malignant tumour on her face is still growing.
Matroos underwent three-hour surgery on October 9, 2015 at the Roman Catholic Hospital in Windhoek to remove the nose tumour, which she had hoped would bring back her self-confidence to mix with people.
The Lüderitz Mayoral Trust Fund covered all her medical expenses and surgery last year at a cost of N$83 000, of which N$60 000 was for the operation and the rest was for transport and accommodation.
She explained that the initial operation went well as the doctor removed one part of the tumour, which was as big as a hand, but the remainder still has to be removed.
After the operation she went for a follow-up in December 2015, and she was told by her doctor that she needed another operation after one year of the first operation, which falls in October, which will cost
N$60 000.
Matroos stopped working last year when her doctor realised the tumour was increasing in size, which made it difficult for her to breathe properly and sometimes caused her excruciating pain.
After her operation she experienced discharge from her right nose and further pain.
She needs funds for the second operation. “October is around the corner and my doctor has told me not to take long for the second operation,” said Matroos.
