Windhoek – The first Turkey-Namibia Business Forum will take place today at the Nampower Convention Centre.

The forum is organized by the Ministry of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development, the Namibia Investment Centre and the Turkish Ministry of Economy, with the coordination of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) and the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

TIM with its 71 000 members is one of the most comprehensive business associations in Turkey working closely with the Turkish Ministry of Economy.

In the light of developing trade and economic relations between Turkey and Namibia, a delegation on an investment mission, composed of 21 businessmen and representatives of TIM, led by the chief Turkish commercial counsellor in Pretoria, will meet their Namibian counterparts.

Followed by the business forum, business to business meetings will take place to explore investment and trade possibilities between the two countries.

Sub-Saharan Africa offers a robust and growing regional market for Turkish companies looking to expand and diversify their customer base. Since the initiation in 2003, the Turkish African Strategy has contributed significantly to Turkish economic activity in the region.

Turkish exports to sub-Saharan Africa reached 4 billion dollars in 2014. Turkish investments and construction have also helped develop the region.

Immanuel Ngatjizeko, the Minister of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development, is expected to be the guest of honour at the forum.

Attending the forum will be representatives from Turkish companies operating in machinery and accessories, defence industrial materials, iron and metal products, electricals, electronics, informatics, education, grains, pulses, oil seeds, aquaculture, animal products, textiles, raw materials, garment and apparel, confectioneries, chocolates, generators, wood and forestry products, leather and leather products and mining.
