Two suspects escaped from lawful custody in a space of a week respectively in Kunene Region and the Karas Region.
The two were named as Hendricks Majiedt (27) and 28-year-old Thomas Nangolo.
Majiedt escaped from the Noordoewer police station while Nangolo escaped from Fransfontein sub-station.
Both men apparently escaped from lawful custody in broad daylight while they were busy cooking dinner for their fellow trial-awaiting prisoners.
Majiedt’s charges include housebreaking, theft and theft of a cellphone.
Nangolo was also held for housebreaking and theft as well as two counts of stock theft.
The duo are still at large.
Polices spokesperson Warrant-Officer Kauna Shikwambi called on the public to help trace the suspects.
“We are still appealing to the public to assist us in tracing and re-arresting the two escapees. Our success depends on you. We can never combat crime if the public keep relevant information to themselves,” said the warrant-officer.
She urged the public to cooperate with the police if they are to live in a crime-free society.
Shikwambi said prisoners in small towns are responsible for preparing their own meals, adding that the two probably found a way to escape.
Shikwambi also sounded a strong warning to the escapees still at large to surrender to the police immediately.
” They should surrender now before the law takes its course,” she said.
Any one with information with regard to the two escapees may contact the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, a police officer was arrested at Okatope after he allegedly shot a 33-year-old man with a CZ92 pistol in the ribs on the right side of the body. The victim died on the spot.
It is alleged the victim was obstructing the police officer from carrying out his duties. He reportedly tried to hit the officer with an empty bottle.
Unknown suspects also broke into the house of the Russian Ambassador at Ludwigsdorf and stole a big plasma TV screen, three computers, one DVD player, two laptops and two monitors.
The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at about N$70 000. No arrests were made yet.
