WINDHOEK– Guitar guru Ulrich Busch presents solo guitar entertainment with focus on classical, jazzy and romantic music on Sunday.
This is in the enchanting setting and enhanced by the extraordinary acoustics of the Stephanus Church – on the corner of Berg and Denise Kaunda (Uhland Street) in Klein Windhoek. The programme was prepared for a tour taking him across Germany. This is a unique occasion for Namibians with a passion for guitar music to ‘check out’ what Ulrich has ‘up his sleeve’. In his programme he unites contrasting, classical, Jazz and Romantic styles, hence the title “Clazzmantic” with great ease. He offers amazingly intense renditions of music by Schubert, Albeniz, Ellington, Gershwin, Tarrega and others.
Ulrich received classical guitar training at the Hochschule Für Künste in Bremen, Germany and was taken through the ropes of solo guitar rendition by Frank Bungarten, Hanover. He attended master classes hosted by internationally recognised guitar virtuosos Manuel Barrueco, Pepe Romero, Roberto Aussel and David Russell. Ulrich has three CD’s to his name, the first focusing on Spanish styles, Virtuose Spanische Musik (1992), with compositions by Joaquin Rodrigo, Antonio José and Federico Moreno-Torroba. In 1996 came Romancero Gitano with works by the Argentinean Astor Piazzolla, the French Claude Debussy and the Italian Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. His latest CD is dedicated to classical romance Klassisch-Romantische Gitarrenmusik, featuring oeuvres by some of the very composers he introduces during his coming recital.
The show starts at five O’clock (17H00) and entrance is from half-past-four (16h30). Tickets may be purchased at the door at N$ 70. Accompanying children under the age of 14 years are charged N$ 40 only.
