University of Namibia (Unam) workers seemingly unable to cope with a lengthy list of price increases on basics were recently engaged in fierce talks prodding management to urgently review their salaries.
Unam staffers, just like other workers, are struggling to make ends meet after the prices of a whole range of basic commodities, namely: cooking oil and dairy products more than doubled, while prices of staple foods such as corn meal, flour and even fuel have also shot skywards.
There is talk interest rates would go up by June overstretching already extended budgets, as homeowners will pay more to service home loans.
Disillusioned employees also want an adjustment in the transport allowance currently at N$500 for those on the lower rung and N$1??????’??
