WINDHOEK
Following a referendum held at the Unam main campus and at affiliate campuses, the bulk of workers at the University of Namibia, disheartened by the institution’s refusal to grant them a 12 percent pay rise, have voted to strike on Friday.
The main reason behind the strike that would leave hundreds of students unable to attend lectures, is economic in nature in that workers are struggling to pay for basics while their salaries cannot match transport fares and trail recent price rises on a whole range of goods.
