WINDHOEK– Located in Shangai Street, Katutura, right across single quarters – kapanas (open market), the V6 Restaurant is becoming a local trending spot for the lovers of Namibian traditional food.
The restaurant has only been in business for more than two weeks now but seems to be attracting people for the simple fact that the savoury food tastes are just like “moms cooking”. The vibe at the restaurant is no fuss, as this spot is for a person who wants to know what the location vibe of Namibia is like .The prices are very affordable ranging from N$ 2 to N$30 and for generous portions of meat with pap(porridge or macaroni). The restaurant is particularly well- known for its “pap and vleis (porridge and meat” with a local version of beef stew with porridge ideal for lunch or dinner and the Otjiherero bread, which is a traditional Otjiherero bread and soup just right for breakfast.
The one thing that sets V6 Restaurant apart is the fact that they use local fresh, tasty ingredients. I had the opportunity to dig into an authentic Namibian food, the owner of the place recommended “pap and vleis” which was full of flavour, the beef which was used in the stew was tasty, tender (one could easily separate the meat from the bone) and lip-smacking as the beef was cooked down to a light reduced soup from the fat on the meat served with a side of soft porridge.
In between I was offered the N$ 2 tasty (lekker) cold “Oros” which I must say compliments the meal as it is refreshing after such a rich dish. There after I did not hesitate to try the “pasta, meat and potato salad” that had a local twist for sure. The potato salad and the beef for me were the defined winners of this dish. The ingredients compliment one another.
V6 Restaurant operates from 08h00 to 19h00, caters for events and does free deliveries (from the amount of six items) to the comfort of your destination.
