RUNDU – A GWM pickup truck collided with a donkey cart pulled by oxen on Monday, seriously injuring four passengers while the oxen died.
The incident that happened at around 18h00 took place at Mupini 2 village in Kavango West Region while the vehicle was heading to Rundu from Bunya village.
It occurred at a spot some 15km west of Rundu along the Rundu Nkurenkuru road and apart from the four passengers the forty-year-old driver of the pickup also sustained injuries.
The seriously injured driver was identified as Kathumbi Pontianus, 40, a worker of the Rundu Town Council.
The other passengers that sustained injuries were identified as 26-year-old Ncani Joseph and Kasiona Kefas, 14, while Mbongo Kongo and Johannes Shimi both 10-year-olds sustained minor injuries.
They were all rushed to the Rundu state hospital for treatment.
In other news, a 27-year-old man appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court for driving a car without the owner’s consent last week on Thursday.
The man was arrested the same day after the owner of the vehicle reported him.
The suspect who is known as Ndara Mbangu, a Namibian male, appeared in court last week on Friday and the case was postponed to July 30 for further investigations.
The suspect was granted bail of N$1 000 by magistrate Esme Molefe who presided over the case while Albert Titus prosecuted.
