The United Nations Volunteers officially launched a new online volunteering service, now available online at https://onlinevolunteering.org. The service allows organisations in need of volunteers and people willing to volunteer online from
around the world to connect with one another so that volunteers can remotely support non-profit organisations that are working to promote peace and development around the world. “Volunteerism is a global force for change,” said Richard Dictus, executive coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers Programme. “Now, with our new Online Volunteering service, it is easier than ever to
make a difference without ever leaving your home. Along with the refreshed look and feel of the site, we are also building stronger partnerships with the corporate sector in online volunteering.
We are certain that this revamped service will spark a growth in volunteering around the world.” On the new online platform, volunteers can serve organisations in need of help in the following areas: writing and editing; art and design; translation; research; technology development; community organising; teaching and training; project development and management; and leadership and strategy. The new online volunteering service features a redesigned website as well as a “1-click query” feature which allows organisations to reach out to half a million people to provide real-time data for their projects.
United Nations Volunteers is also launching a new employee online volunteering solution for global companies, together with Samsung, its first official partner for this service. Organisations and governments whose employees volunteer through this programme can use a platform and technology hosted by United Nations Volunteers to manage and monitor their volunteer programs.
