Warrant of arrest issued for Shihepo

Home Crime and Courts Warrant of arrest issued for Shihepo

Windhoek

Hard-punching pugilist Wilberforce ‘Black Mamba’ Shihepo, 32, had his bail money forfeited to the State and a warrant of arrest issued against him after he failed to show up in court last week .

Though boxers are generally not allowed to fight outside the ring, Shihepo faces a charge of assault with intent to do serious bodily harm for a fight that took place outside the ring.

He was arrested on April 14, but about details who he allegedly bashed, and how are sketchy.

When questioned about the status of his legal representation he informed Magistrate Ingrid Unengu two weeks ago that he went to his lawyer’s office, where he was told to open a new file, but “I did not manage to get the amount,” he said, adding that he would be conducting his own defence.

Prosecutor Georgitte Losper then informed the court the docket was not available, and requested that the matter be remanded to August 20, which was granted.

Shihepo was out on bail of N$1 000.

When Shihepo was called on Thursday he was not present and in response Prosecutor Ivann Tjizu requested that bail be provisionally cancelled and that the bail money be provisionally forfeited to the State with a return date of September 3 for the case to continue, which Magistrate Unengu granted.

Since capturing the WBO Africa Super Middleweight title, Shihepo has had one successful defence of his title and two successful non-title bouts.
