WINDHOEK – The City Police have warned homeowners to be vigilant and not leave their property unattended this festive season when they go away on holiday.
Speaking to New Era on Tuesday, Senior Superintendent Gerry Shikesho said property owners should not leave their properties unattended when they go on holiday.
Shikesho urged property owners to leave someone they trust on their property, because criminals are very active at this time of the year targeting houses.
Three men were arrested on Tuesday at 1am in Eros by City Police officers on patrol, Shikesho informed New Era. They were found with house-breaking implements, mainly crowbars, cutters, a hacksaw, a screwdriver and three balaclavas.
They told the City Police they were working and were going to use the tools in the vehicle for their work. The senior superintendent said criminals would once they see that kids are at home alone, pretend they are looking for a specific address and conduct arm robberies.
Shikesho urged property owners to report any suspicious movements particularly at night and in the early morning hours when marauding gangs of thieves are active.
Criminals would sometimes scout the area on foot, while their getaway car follows them slowly from a distance.
