Windhoek City Council last Thursday turned to strict water management strategies when they started to install pre-paid water meters around communal points in 8ste Lana in Otjomuise. Residents said they do not have major problems purchasing pre-paid water cards. New Era paid a visit over the weekend to the areas where pre-paid meters were installed. Residents, however, complained that the list with their names has not yet been entered into the database at Wanaheda office, where they purchase the cards, thus making it difficult to acquire water cards. They also complained that the toilets cannot be flushed and might cause a blockage, which will create unhygienic conditions. The prepaid metering system has a number of benefits, including the fact that water leaks on the premises can be detected immediately, aiding in water conservation.
