FC Ongos Ladies’ head coach Shama Gure has stressed the need for his charges to stay focused as they head into a crucial weekend of FNB Women’s Super League (WSL) action.
He wants to take maximum points from their two upcoming matches – against V-Power Angels tomorrow and Okahandja FC on Sunday. Despite both opponents struggling this season, V-Power Angels sitting 10th with five points and Okahandja FC at the bottom with four points from a possible 21, Gure insists his team will not take anything for granted.
Ongos Ladies currently occupy fourth position on the log with 14 points from six matches, and he believes these fixtures present a great opportunity to close the gap on the league leaders Khomas Nampol at the top with 18 points.
Gure expressed excitement and determination ahead of the two matches.
“Both matches will be tough for us, although the standings may say otherwise. We will treat our opponents with respect, and we will take a different tactical approach for the weekend,” he said.
“Our current position on the log doesn’t reflect the quality of our team. That’s why we need maximum points to improve our standing,” he added.
Ongos will be without eight key players this weekend due to injuries sustained in recent weeks. Gure acknowledged this setback but remains confident in his squad’s depth. “We have key players ruled out, but those stepping in know they must rise to the occasion,” said Gure.
Meanwhile, V-Power Angels’ head coach Risto Shikomba said his team is fully-prepared, despite facing a tough opponent. “We are ready, and we have a mission to accomplish this weekend. Our opponents are strong, but we have prepared well and will fight for the points,” he stated.
