EENHANA – The Election Commission of Namibia (ECN) has embarked on a weeklong roadshow meant to educate the inhabitants of Ohangwena Region on elections ahead of the general elections this year. One of the aims is to sensitize inhabitants on the need to maintain an atmosphere of peace during the voter registration process, which starts on January 15 and ends on March 2. The roadshow was launched last Wednesday.
The regional voter education officer of the Ohangwena Region, Ndinomuene Muahafa, said a notice was issued to all constituency councillors, church leaders and political leaders in the region that all political party activities were being monitored by the commission.
“To all political parties represented here today as we launch our election roadshow, l wish to highlight that all political parties should advise their supporters to go register for them to vote. We are monitoring all activities in the region and we therefore call upon political parties’ supporters to go and register in order for them to vote in this year’s elections,” Muahafa said
Muahafa said specific voter education strategies would be employed to ensure that eligible Namibians living in Ohangwena Region and its constituencies are registered correctly.
The ECN is introducing a new technology “Voter Registration Kit” whereby voters will be issued with a new type of voter card in ID format like a driver’s licence.
The ECN road show in Ohangwena Region started from Eenhana, the capital town of the region and will proceed as scheduled to other small towns such as Okongo, Omugwelume and Ongha to end in Omafo constituency.
The roadshow will see established musicians and renowned artistes such as Nakale Ya Nakale and DJ Remind and Crew performing and entertaining prospective voters through dance and music.
