Wilson, Pienaar win Nedbank for Good Series Round 9

The Nedbank for Good Series completed its ninth round at the Outjo Golf Club on Saturday.

Local newcomer Henco Wilson and Oranjemund-based Yolanda Pienaar emerged as the first-ever champions of the series in Outjo in the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively.

The day’s competition saw golfers navigating the challenging Outjo Golf Club course.

It was making its debut on the series this year, joining Okahandja and Grootfontein as first-time hosts.

In the men’s division, Henco Wilson secured the top spot with an impressive 38 points counted in (C/I).

He was followed closely by Terus Burger, who also scored 38 points counted out (C/O).

Local junior talent Kruger Wilson finished in third place with 36 points.

Christian Nghole and Simson Tsaneb rounded out the top five with 35 and 31 points, respectively.

Speaking after the tournament, Wilson expressed excitement and gratitude for having the opportunity to play in such a well-organised and highly competitive event in Outjo.

“I was surprised I won the competition. I didn’t expect it. The weather was perfect, making it a wonderful day to play golf. Outjo is sometimes windy and dusty, but today, the conditions were perfect. The competition was tough among us. We had local players – some came from Otjiwarongo, Tsumeb and Grootfontein. Others came from as far as Orangemund. My son, Kruger, also played with us. He is a talented boy who plays a solid 100,” he said.

He added that, as local Outjo residents, they were grateful to the organisers and sponsors for bringing the tournament to their town.

“This will encourage more residents to take up golf. Our club will kick off from here and go forward. We just needed someone to kick-start the process. Next year, we are looking at more players from Outjo and Otjiwarongo coming through and participating in the series, which also allows us to give back to charity,” he said.

In the ladies’ division, Yolanda Pienaar claimed the first-place prize.

The series will now head to the coast for its next three rounds, starting with Henties Bay Golf Club and Lifestyle Estate on 16 August.

She was followed by the Rossmund Golf Course on 23 August.

Walvis Bay Golf Club completed the ‘coastal swing’ on 30 August.
