Windhoek
The popular Bank Windhoek Under-17 Schools Netball League finals concluded in Windhoek last weekend.
The semifinals were played on Friday night, with the finals slated for the next day and saw the top four teams of the season competing for the prize money in the A-division, while the bottom four fought it out in the B-division.
All matches were closely contested and produced netball of an excellent standard, as not seen in this neck of the woods in a long time.
The much-anticipated Under-19 finals took place at the Windhoek Gymnasium courts on Friday (semifinals), with the finals held the next day at the same venue. The weekend’s matches were hailed as some of the best schools netball action witnessed in these parts in recent times.
Elnatan, WHS, Tsumeb Gymnasium and hosts Windhoek Gymnasium locked horns for the trophy in the A-Division, while the quartet of Edugate, De Duine, WBPHS and WAP contested the B-Division.
In the Under-17 A-division, Windhoek Gymnasium defeated De Duine with Otjiwarongo, finishing in 3rd place after they waltzed past WHS in the 3rd-place play-off. Elnatan won the Under-17 B-division, leaving Duinesig, Agri Gollege and Walvis Bay Private Schools to pick up the pieces for the remaining places in that order.
