Windhoek –This year’s annual Bank Windhoek Schools Netball Super League ended on a high note, with several matches played in the capital last weekend that saw reigning champions Windhoek Gymnasium U/19 retain the trophy for the fourth consecutive year.
Stampriet’s Elnatan Private School gifted their best performance against the title winners, while Windhoek High School finished 3rd in the highly competitive A-Division.
In the B-Division of the Under-19 Netball Super League, Edugate Academy from Otjiwarongo came out tops with Windhoek Afrikaans Private (WAP) and Walvis Bay Private High School picking up the pieces for 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
“We celebrate another successful netball super league season. This year a total of 22 teams competed nationally over 11 weeks for the top prize money,” said an excited Liezel Garbers, Chairperson of the Bank Windhoek Schools Netball Super League Steering Committee.
“The league was highly competitive producing quite a few draws and closely contested games. We are proud to say that the schools netball super league has brought a new level of competitiveness to schools netball.”
“We want to thank all schools for their commitment and dedication throughout the season. At the end, all teams showed true sportsmanship and we would like to thank and applaud all umpires, coaches and parents for supporting the league,” said Garbers.
“Bank Windhoek believes in promoting local platforms for local communities. The league started off as a pilot project with only one division and it’s now a national event,” said Marlize Horn, Executive Officer: Group Marketing and Corporate Communication Services at Bank Windhoek.
“The Bank remains passionate about the game of netball and to develop the sport. The increasing number of schools competing in the league is very positive, which clearly indicates that netball in schools is growing and that schools want to give their teams exposure and opportunities for development by playing in this very competitive league.”
“We are happy to announce that an U/15 league will be added in 2017 to the current U/17 and U/19 leagues and we look forward to provide our youngsters with this great platform to showcase their talent,” Horn said.
