WINDHOEK – Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL), a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group of Companies, launched the Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket Golf Championship in the last participating country, Zambia recently.

Ian Stevenson, NBL Marketing Manager said during the launch at the Lusaka Golf Club that this year’s event would be the inaugural tourney involving Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.  He added that participating countries would choose four existing local tournaments on their respective calendars as qualifiers for the Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket Golf Championship finals. “Players in the championship would compete in three divisions. These are the A with handicaps up to nine, B handicaps from 10 to 16 and C handicaps from 17 to 24,” advised Stevenson.

Chairman of the National Sports Council of Zambia and guest of honor at the launch, Mwamba Kalenga, said he was pleased to see the Zambian Golf Union partnering with a world class brand such as Windhoek Lager. “I must also congratulate Namibia Breweries Limited for their foresight and support in making this opportunity a reality. I believe that the championship will forge greater relationships with all the participating countries at the sporting level, but it is also good to see companies that export to Zambia prepared to invest in the local market. On behalf of the Sports Council of Zambia I wish to convey our support and congratulations to both Windhoek Lager and the Zambian Golf Union for their efforts in bringing to life the Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket Golf Championship and hope that it will have a long and successful future.” The first golf tournament involving the Windhoek Lager green jacket point accumulation was held over the weekend of March 1-2.
