ONGWEDIVA – Police have arrested Aino Nembenge Hinaunye from Olukekete Village for the alleged murder of a baby girl who was found dumped in the Ruacana canal behind the Outapi District Hospital last week.
Hinaunye is accused of killing her baby before throwing her in the canal. The baby’s body was found floating in the canal by NamWater personnel and the little corpse was wrapped in a blue plastic bag.
Spokesperson of the Omusati Police, Warrant-Officer Lineekela Shikongo, said the suspect was arrested on Sunday at Okapelelona Village in the Outapi Constituency.
The suspect appeared in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Shikongo said the police were alerted by community members who heard of the police appeal for information on a possible suspect.
“We were informed by the public and arrested the suspect at Okapalelona,” said Shikongo.
The suspect worked as a domestic worker in Outapi.
