OTJIWARONGO – A 24-year-old woman died instantly on Monday night near Otjiwarongo after a minibus in which she was travelling collided with a sedan on the Otjiwarongo–Okahandja B1 road.

Namibian Police head of community affairs in the Otjozondjupa region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, told Nampa in an interview on Tuesday that the deceased has not yet been identified.

She said the collision occurred at about 23h20, approximately 15 kilometres south of Otjiwarongo.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the minibus, which had 12 occupants including its 37-year-old driver, was travelling from Okahandja towards Otjiwarongo when it side-collided with an oncoming red Toyota Corolla bearing a Windhoek registration number.

“Two occupants in the sedan survived the accident, while the woman, who was a passenger in the bus, died on the spot after the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned several times,” Mbeha said.

Another male bus occupant, aged 33, sustained serious injuries and was transferred to a hospital in Windhoek later on Monday night.
Several other occupants of the minibus reported body pains and were taken to Otjiwarongo State Hospital.

Police investigations in the matter continue.
