Woman guilty of forging qualifications

Woman guilty of forging qualifications

OHANGWENA – The Ohangwena Magistrate’s Court convicted a 30-year-old woman for falsifying her teaching qualifications as well as attempting to kill a colleague in her car in 2021.

The head of the crime investigations unit in Ohangwena region, Deputy Commissioner Zachariah Amakali, said Fransian Mwetufa was convicted last Wednesday on counts of forgery and attempted murder.

She will be sentenced on Thursday.

“She was found guilty on two counts. The first count is forging her qualifications, and the second count is attempted murder when she stabbed a colleague with a knife,” he said.

Mwetufa was a teacher at Limbadungila Combined School in Ohangwena region.

However, it was later discovered that to obtain employment as a teacher, she submitted a forged academic record and a bachelor’s degree in upper primary education.

She had been teaching for two years before the revelations.

That year, Mwetufa’s case went viral on social media after she tried to kill her colleague by stabbing her with a knife after offering to take her out for lunch. The stabbing incident occurred in Mwetufa’s vehicle.

It is alleged that the victim discovered that Mwetufa had allegedly stolen N$6 500 from the principal’s account, and she was alerted that the school would open a disciplinary case against her.

Prior to the incident, Mwetufa appeared in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on a count of forgery.

It is alleged that Mwetufa sold her car to a car dealer, and after a few days, went to buy it back.

She then provided a false bank statement as proof of payment.
