Woman nabbed with N$44 000 worth illicit cigarettes

OMUTHIYA – Police in the Oshikoto region arrested a 38-year-old woman after she was allegedly found in possession of illicit goods worth N$44 600.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) regional commander Theopoline Kalompho-Nashikaku said the arrest occurred at the Oshivelo check point around 12h00 last Thursday after the woman was found in possession of ‘Yes’ cigarettes, suspected to have been smuggled from Angola.

“It is alleged that during a stop-and-search exercise, the suspect was found in possession of the illicit goods,”she said.

The woman was travelling in a minibus from northern Namibia to Windhoek, and allegedly had 223 boxes of ‘Yes’ cigarettes in her possession. She was set to appear in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court yesterday. -Nampa
