World Music Day will be celebrated tomorrow at various venues in the capital in outlying towns, it was announced in a press release by the Franco-Namibia Cultural Center. The day is now celebrated on all five continents and is open to all. Every year it is a unique opportunity that promotes discovery and exchange. “Tomorrow it will be once again celebrated all day long at the Tamariskia Sportsfield in Swakop-mund, Yetu Shopping Centre in Oshakati, La Hall in Katima Mulilo and at Zoo Park, College of the Arts, Otjomuise I, Woermann Brock parking area and the Warehouse in Windhoek,” the statement said. Completely different from a music festival, the FÃÆ’Æ‘Æ‘ÃÆ”šÃ‚ªte de la Musique is above all a free popular fÃÆ’Æ‘Æ‘ÃÆ”šÃ‚ªte, open to any participant (amateur or professional muicians) who want to perform in it. “This music day allows the expression of all styles of music in a cheerful atmosphere. It aims at a large audience, working to popularise musical practice for young and not so young people from all social backgrounds. It gives an opportunity to communicate and share a very special moment through music.” Launched in 1982 by the French Ministry for Culture, the FÃÆ’Æ‘Æ‘ÃÆ”šÃ‚ªte de la Musique has become an international event. “We have to invent the FÃÆ’Æ‘Æ‘ÃÆ”šÃ‚ªte de la Musique again and again, taking care of each country’s cultural specificities. In this way, it will become a real emblematic event in most countries,” the statement said.
