Young Chiefs gain promotion to NPL

Home Sports Young Chiefs gain promotion to NPL

Following the sudden fall of Oshakati City FC from the apex of Namibian football some years ago, the northern town of Oshakati was over the weekend given a new glimmer of hope following the promotion of Young Chiefs to the country’s elite football league.

Chiefs yesterday played to a goalless draw against Golden Bees in their North West First Division (NWFD) clash at the Outjo Sports Stadium but despite the draw the result was enough to hand Chiefs their much awaited promotion to the country’s flagship league, the MTC Namibia Premier League.

With Chiefs having gained promotion, they will become only the third team from that neck of the woods to compete in the MTC premiership following in the footsteps of Oshakati City and KK Palace from Ondangwa.
Both teams came into yesterday’s match knowing that a win for either side would send them through but Chiefs however had the upper hand going into the match since a draw was also going to be enough to pave their way to topflight football. For Bees it was a must win game if they were to stand a chance of gaining promotion.

With this result Chiefs finished on top of the league with 41 points with Bees trailing in 2nd place with 39 points and Eleven Warriors in 4th with 36 points.

At the other end of the log table, Unam Ogongo kissed goodbye to first division football after losing 2-1 against KK Palace on Saturday. Unam Ogongo joins relegated and suspended Robber Chanties, who were kicked out of the league after failing to pitch up for three matches.
