WINDHOEK – By yesterday morning the Young Warriors had already started with preparations for their forthcoming 2nd leg of the 2015 CAF Youth Championship preliminary round qualifier against Mozambique at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday.
Namibia lost 2-1 in Mozambique on April 5 during the 1st leg and will be counting on their important away goal when they take on the visitors.
Young Warriors assistant coach James Britz says they have called up six players from the Newspaper Cup and one player from the Four-Nations U/17 tournament held at Swakopmund over the Easter Weekend.
“We had to beef up the team a bit and we are happy with the players we have identified. We are positive of a good result on Saturday. The away goal is very crucial and will come in handy for us on Saturday,” said Britz. The additional players from the Newspaper Cup are Kunene region goalkeeper Theodor Gaeseb, defenders Ricky Mayumbelo (Zambezi) and Daniel Adima (Omusati) and midfielders Brendan Gaeseb (Oshikoto), Fernandez Musambani (Khomas) and Felix Kasungu (Kavango).
Meanwhile, Namibia’s U/17 striker Jandjamuje Maharero is also included and Britz explains why: “Maharero has the physical presence and can become a top striker if he is well taken care of and that is why we have called on him to offer us options upfront.”
The other players in camp are Esko Kavela (Eleven Arrows), Glenn Kamutjete (Life Fighters), Uaseuako Katjiukua (Rundu Chiefs), Wendell Rudath (KFA), Hendry Duwe and Simaneka Kabungu (both Swakopmund Football Club), Donovan Kanjaa (Young African), Vitapi Ngaruka (United Stars), Jackson Johannes (Oshakati City), Marco Somseb (Tura Magic), Ananias Nakambuli (Benfica), Isensius Mutuku (Rundu Chiefs), Riaan !Hanamub and Jonas Mathues (both Touch &Go), Brandon Goagoseb (Orlando Pirates), Donovan Gainub (Tura Magic), Risto Makuti (United Stars), Boniface Sianga (Desert Rollers).
