Otavi
About 140 youth from Tsumeb, Ongwediva and Oshakati met over the weekend in Otavi for a transformational leadership development convention, aimed at discussing the biggest problems facing communities in their areas.
They also discussed the challenges the youth face in contributing to achieving national development goals such as Vision 2030. The founder of the programme, Isaac !Hoaeb, said this year’s event was a big positive.
“The convention was a huge success. We divided the youngsters into groups and sent them out to engage community members on the biggest problems they face,” stated !Hoaeb.
The event kicked off last week on Wednesday and ended yesterday.
!Hoaeb said the annual gathering aims at equipping youth with skills to tackle developmental challenges specifically in rural areas.
“This special initiative was started to equip and develop leaders and emerging youth to transform the church, and communities, through godly principles and to equip the Body of Christ for the work of national service,” he said.
“As we have noticed in the past few years, we are faced with challenges like alcohol and drug abuse, ignorance, immorality, corruption, poverty, unemployment, disease, gender-based violence, crime, and the list goes on. We need to raise leaders who can kill these giants in our communities, churches and nation.”
!Hoaeb said the findings of this year’s consultations show that the big problems are poor infrastructural development, unemployment and access to affordable land.
