NKURENKURU – The information and communication technology ministry’s Kavango West regional office has once again empowered youth here with basic computer skills through its short basic computer literacy programme.
On Thursday, the office was filled with a joyful atmosphere as 28 youth from the second intake of the programme were awarded with certificates for successfully completing the training.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Kavango West regional council’s acting director for planning and development services Toini Angula applauded the participants.
“These basic computer skills that you have acquired means you have just started the journey of self-discovery,” she stated.
Angula encouraged the participants to see to it that the skills they acquired are put to practice to advance their future careers.
“You can only become a technician, programmer or software developer if you continue developing your skills; if you build on what you have acquired under this training,” she noted.
“In the same vein, let me encourage the ministry of information and communication technology staff to continue empowering more youth in the region with these skills.”
She also made a call to the business fraternity and government partners and stakeholders to support the programme in order to enhance it.
“My appeal to all partners and stakeholders in the region is for you to please come on board, and let us support this noble initiative in order to empower our youth with the necessary skills for them to advance their careers through information and communication technology,” Angula continued.
The office is in need of more computers as there are currently only four desktop computers at the office’s internet café being utilised for the training.
Meanwhile, the MICT Kavango West’s regional head Beatus Arnat encouraged the participants to continue enhancing the basic skills they acquired.
“I believe that you are going to make use of these skills that you have acquired wherever you find yourself, and I believe that it’s going to help you to advance your careers. It will help you in terms of personal growth as an individual,” he added.
Selma Nghilundilwa, one of the participants, was grateful to government for introducing the programme, saying they can now also apply for employment where computer knowledge is required.
The training is offered free of charge.
