… growl their way back to summit

WINDHOEK – A quick glance at the current log standings after eight rounds of matches in the lucrative and highly competitive MTC Premiership reveals that Tigers Football Club will be the team to watch this term.

The Shadumbala outfit kept their unbeaten streak intact with a narrow 1-0 win over the much-improved PC Blue Boys in the second of a double header at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek on Saturday.

Burly striker Kaka Nekundi netted the only goal of an otherwise entertaining match to give the early pace-setters a much needed win to reclaim first spot on the MTC Premiership log standings after briefly surrendering their place at the summit to title rivals and reigning champions Black Africa, 24 hours earlier.

Eleven Arrows made full use of home ground advantage as the coastal outfit finally returned to winning ways with a convincing 2-0 triumph over Tura Magic at the Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay.

Munavei Mapenzi and much-travelled midfielder and former African Stars reject Wesley Katjiteo netted a goal apiece for the seasiders.

Basement sitters Rundu Chiefs recorded their first win of the season when the league’s stragglers shocked Civics in their own backyard dispatching the Mighty Civilians (2-1) in the curtain raiser at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Elsewhere, MTC Premiership new boys United Stars and LHU Blue Waters cancelled each other out in a six-goal thriller (3-3) at the Rundu Stadium.

Undisputed Namibian champions Black Africa sent out a stern warning to their detractors that it will take a Herculean act by any ambitious opponents to wrestle the coveted title away from them.

After an unconvincing display that saw them held to an uninspiring 1-all draw by Tigers in their last league, Brian Isaacs’ charges defied the odds stacked against them when they came out tops in their top of the table derby against traditional rivals FNB Orlando Pirates at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Friday evening.

For the umpteenth time, the Ghosts’ diehards were left to pick up the pieces and play second fiddle to their more illustrious rivals when gangling striker Kumbee Katjiteo broke the vociferous Buccaneers’ supporters hearts with an opportunistic goal that gifted the Namibian champions the much needed maximum three points at stake
