Dear Editor
I HOPE this article will be published in your esteemed newspaper.
I refer to the Informanté article titled “War Deaths Roll Call” and wish to thank the Minister of Veterans Affairs Dr Nickey Iyambo on the envisaged establishment of a committee to look into the affairs of the fallen freedom fighters.
Since the passing of my late brother Cornelius Baoki Matongela in 1979 according to the letter we received from my brother Robert when he was en-route from Lusaka to France where he was pursuing his studies during that year.
My father has been sobbing for all these years since then, not because his son died for the liberation of this country, but not knowing where his son is buried, so that we could pay homage to our late brother for what he did for us as a family and the country. I therefore think this committee will further be mandated to do more research to identify their burial sites, all we know is that he was buried in Mwandi/Zambia after an exchange of fire between PLAN combatants and SWATF on the Zambezi River in the areas covering Sesheke/Zambia and the Wenela Border Post up to Kizito College. I for one sincerely look forward to the establishment of this committee ASAP.
Chrispin Matongela (young brother to the late Combatant).
