… Pirates in close pursuit

WINDHOEK – MTC Namibia Premiership table-toppers Tigers Football Club are still riding the crest of the wave in the country’s elite league after trouncing coastal outfit Eleven Arrows 2-0 at the Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay on Saturday.

The victory leaves Tigers three points clear at the top of the log with 12 points and still unbeaten after four rounds of matches. Two goals apiece from Protash Kabwe and Benson Shilongo were enough to maintain Tigers’ unbeaten streak and back-up of their current form that has seen the Shandumbala outfit score seven goals and conceding one in just four matches.

The 2nd placed FNB Orlando Pirates defeated Ramblers 1-0 in a closely contested match that saw Mervin Areseb score a solitary goal at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Friday. At the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday, lethal goal-poacher Heinrich ‘Gazza’ Kazerua was on target for African Stars when his brace inspired the Katutura giants to a comfortable 2-0 victory over struggling United Stars.

Defending champions Black Africa played to a dull goalless draw on Friday night at the Sam Nujoma Stadium. Brian Isaacs’ charges struggled immensely against Christy Guruseb’s motivated outfit as the reigning champions lacked composure in most departments and their usual ‘passing and pressing’ game failed to do any harm on the civilians. PC Blue Boys and LHU Blue Waters were the weekend’s stalemates after the two coastal outfits could only manage to salvage a 1-all draw.

At Rundu, Tura Magic’s inspirational captain Neville Tjiueza once again inspired his team to a well-deserved 3-1 win over Rundu Chiefs at the Rundu Sport Stadium.
