WINDHOEK – The Erongo and Oshikoto regions will be presenting their bids to host the 2014 Namibian Newspaper Cup tomorrow at the NFA Football House. Tomorrow’s event will serve as the second step in deciding the successful bidder for the annual youth tournament.

The Namibian Newspaper Cup Organising Committee has already concluded visits to the towns of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund in the Erongo Region as well as to Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region, which formed part of the first step of the selection process for the host region.

Each region is expected to provide two hard copies of the bid presentation. The two regions are vying for rights to host the 16th edition of the tournament.

“This cup is very fundamental to the development of players and it has grown in leaps and bounds and we anticipate that regions will continue to bid for its hosting and take the game to the people. So I call upon all regions, especially those that have not hosted it before to link up with their municipal areas and see to it that they put in a bid,” urged NFA Secretary General Barry Rukoro.

As part of the criteria to host The Namibian Newspaper Cup,it is required that the host town must have a stadium with artificial or natural grass, have a minimum capacity for 2 000 people and suitable lighting for night games.

Bidding regions also have to note that the NFA and The Namibian newspaper retain the commercial rights to the competition and  acceptable accommodation must be provided for a 25-man delegation from each region as well for the NFA, The Namibian newspaper and match officials. Medical standby for the duration of the tournament, catering and security are also amongst the conditions for hosting the cup competition.
