WINDHOEK – Early pace-setters Tigers confirmed their title credentials with a hard fought 1-0 win over a stubborn Civics outfit in a closely contested MTC Premiership clash at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek on Friday.
Both teams went into the top of the table clash as the only unbeaten sides after two rounds of matches and the match looked destined for a goalless stalemate until Tigers were awarded a debatable penalty in the dying minutes of the game.
Up stepped a confident Benson Shilongo and the lanky striker made no mistake from the spot-kick to give Ingweinyama their 3rd straight win after three rounds of matches.
In Saturday’s action, Ramblers recorded their first win of the current campaign following a 4-2 drubbing of seasiders Eleven Arrows in the first of a double header at the Sam Nujoma Stadium. A goal apiece by Bruce Goseb, Lucky Kooper, Diego Descande and Alfred Ndyenge did the trick for the Tunschel Street Boys while Reinold Eiseb and Ferdinand Karongee replied for the visiting coastal outfit.
Namibian champions Black Africa had lady luck to thank for their narrow 2-1 victory against an energetic LHU Blue Waters side full of running.
Midfield workaholic Marko van Wyk and free-scoring dreadlocked striker Muna Katupose were on target for the clearly out of sorts Gemengde-based outfit, while Brave Warriors speedy winger Ballack Somaeb netted for the seasiders, who remain winless after 270 minutes of open play.
Elsewhere, Katutura glamour football club African Stars returned to winning ways after a worrisome sluggish start to their league campaign with an empathic 4-0 hammering of basement dwellers Rundu Chiefs in a one-sided MTC Premiership clash at the Rundu Stadium on Saturday.
Elvis Tjivasera netted a brace for the “Samba Boys” with the ball-playing Brave Warriors center back Chris Katjuukua and striker Guti Korukuve completing the riot with a goal apiece to their credit.
MTC Premiership newcomers PC Blue Boys recorded their second straight win in the country’s topflight league with another splendid performance.
The league’s new boys dispatched fellow league rookies United Stars with a narrow 2-1 triumph at the Vineta Stadium in Swakopmund on Saturday, to complete activities in the 3rd round with an astonishing tally of 18 goals in just slightly over 540-minutes of action.
Tura Magic’s fairytale run was brought to an abrupt end by Ali Akan’s fired-up FNB Orlando Pirates, who claimed the scalps of the giant slayers with a narrow 1-0 win at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in midweek action.
