WINDHOEK – Two security guards were shot in an armed robbery yesterday that saw the criminals getting away with an unspecified amount of money.

Khomas Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator Deputy Commissioner Silvanus Nghishidimbwa confirmed two of the three security guards from  Southern Cross Security Services in a company vehicle were collecting money from the Woermann Brock retail shop in Wanaheda when they were attacked. “The robbers attacked the security guards and grabbed boxes containing an unspecified amount of money,” said Nghishidimbwa. One of the security guards was wounded in the abdomen and the other one in the leg. The incident happened between ten and eleven o’ clock in the morning, he added. The vehicle which the robbers used was later found abandoned at a car wash in Hakahana, but no one was arrested by yesterday afternoon, he said. “They apparently just dropped the car there to be washed. We are requesting the public with information to assist in this regard,” said Nghishidimbwa. New Era tried in vain to get comment from the security company as they refused to divulge any information.
