WINDHOEK – Western Suburbs on Saturday put up a gallant performance to book themselves a place in the final of the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Premier League Cup competition, when they hammered United 34-5.
The win brings the Khomasdal outfit into contention for top league honours and will meet with Rehoboth in the final.
Suburbs, who on many occassions had the upper hand against United, started the opening half on a high note with early attacks and great team work. However both teams kept delivering somewhat halfhearted attacks, although Suburbs was the more effective team in what eventually turned out to be an entertaining first half with Suburbs leading 29-0 going into the break.
In the second half, Suburbs wasted little time if any and picked up where they had left off, but this time around showing more composure and unleashing some impressive runs that kept United’s defence on their toes. United however engaged in a few rampages of their own, but Suburbs tightly held on to win the match 34-5.
In another engrossing encounter, Unam defeated Kudus 29-7. It was also a highly entertaining clash between the two outfits as Unam looked ultra-motivated and kicked off the game in sparkling form, playing some classical attacking rugby from the wings and displaying super silky ball-handling skills.
Unam dominated the first half with an assortment of attacks and the second half also followed in a similar pattern of play. Unam, however, proved to be the better and hungrier team for a win and held their composure on the park to win the game 29-7 to conclude the day’s semi-finals.
