WINDHOEK – Namibia’s fistball champions will be crowned this coming Saturday when the finals of the Bank Windhoek Fistball Championship conclude in Windhoek at the DTS Sports Grounds starting at 08h30.
SKW 2 has already qualified for the final of the National A League after the Germans surprised favourites and seniors SKW 1 by clinching the log section of the competition with some fine performances early in the season. SKW 1 will face Cohen FC 1 in a qualifying match for a place in the final later in the day. Cohen FC 1 have shown improved form for most of the season and will take on the more favoured Imawida outfit.
A win for Cohen would be a huge surprise, since the Germans are preparing for the Intercontinental Club World Championship slated for Windhoek on October 11, with teams from Brazil and Germany expected to participate. SFC Sport Club and Cohen FC 2 will battle it out for 4th place in the first game of the day. A tense battle is expected in the B League, where DTS and SKW 3 will lock horns in a game in which the winner will qualify to play Cohen FC 3 in the championship final.
Cohen FC 3 has dominated the domestic 2nd tier competition this year, having won all their matches, dropping only two sets in the process while the rejuvenated SFC 2 side have their sights firmly set on ending the competition in 3rd spot as they start their day with a 4th place playoff with a win in this particular match likely to propel them to compete for 3rd spot against either SKW 3 or DTS.
The finals will be played at 14h30 in the B League and at 16h00 in the A League. A prize-giving ceremony where the DANRIC Auto Player of the Day trophy will be awarded, is scheduled for later in the evening at 19h00 in the DTS Clubhouse.
