… amateur boxers show their class
WINDHOEK – Namibian amateur boxers delivered some inspired and courageous performances at the recently concluded United Nations (UN) World Tourism Friendly Boxing Tournament held in Livingstone, Zambia.
Although a few boxers experienced some difficulties in various categories, the Namibians scooped a total of eight medals from different weight divisions. From a total contingent of 12 boxers, the eight managed the stern test of the competition to being home the medals.
Flyweight boxer Jacob Jacob put up a gallant performance when he trounced Zambian pugilist Kelvin Llunga, while Shadaka Immanuel made sure Namibia took top honours in the bantamweight division when he defeated Obed Mutapa of Zambia. Also in the mix of things for Namibia were Kakololo Nathanael and Shaningwa Lazarus, who defeated Zambia’s Hillary Chola and Dennius Kanyola to come out tops in the lightweight division.
In other results, bantamweight boxer Jonas Mathews of Namibia handed Zambia’s Obed Mutapa his second consecutive defeat of the tourney when he outclassed the Zambian in all departments of their highly entertaining bout. Namibia’s Sackaria Amutja, showing much power and determination waltzed past Gilbert Chombe of Zambia to bring home the light welterweight accolade.
