WINDHOEK
The government yesterday cautioned Namibians to remain vigilant “and not allow any force to divert their attention from real issues of common national concern”.
Reacting to the submission made by the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged human rights violations by former President Sam Nujoma, former Chief of the NDF, Solomon ‘Jesus’ Hawala, former Defence Minister Erkki Nghimtina, and NDF Colonel Thomas Shuuya, the government said it has no information on the alleged submission and thus could not discuss issues that it was not aware of.
“The nation will, however, be informed of the government’s position if it is established that what is alleged in the Namibian newspaper is true,” said a statement released by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
It came out in strong support of former President Sam Nujoma, for his “visionary leadership”.
“Comrade Sam Nujoma is a Namibian hero and no amount of blackmail will take that away from him.”
The statement said: “The Namibian nation will not allow those who want to rewrite our glorious history of the liberation struggle to succeed.”
