WINDHOEK

It is again time for the College of the Arts annual fund-raising bazaar. We celebrate our 36th anniversary with a day of fun to be held tomorrow at the College, 41 Fidel Castro Street, Windhoek, from 10h00 to 17h00. This is our 13th Mardi Gras event, which is being held to raise money for the College.

This year’s Mardi Gras is different from previous years since it focuses primarily on our raffle. It is our hope that students, parents and all interested in music and art will share in a day of fun and fund-raising.

Besides the usual tea, bakery and beer garden, visitors will be able to listen to live music by College bands and ensembles. The main event is the raffle ticket draw which will take place at 15h00. Tickets cost only N$10.00 and wonderful prizes can be won.

We invite you to join us for something a little different on a Saturday. Come sit and relax in our sheltered courtyard, sip tea, soft drinks or beer, while listening to laid-back music from Classical to African to Jazz.

From 12h00 a substantial lunch will be available at a very reasonable price, which includes a braai and salads. The purpose of this is to RAISE LOTS OF MONEY for The College.

Last year’s money was used for renovations and restoration of our valuable pianos. The College also awards 35 scholarships each term costing approximately N$15 500! We still need money for the purchase of musical instruments, to replace the Concert Hall floor and reparations to Dance Studio floors.

Finally, we must consider the purchase of a Kombi or minibus as a priority for use to transport lecturers to outlying regions to present workshops and courses.

Perhaps this is a bit ambitious, but it may be possible to address some of these needs.

We therefore turn to you, parents, students of the College and anyone interested in the promotion of arts and music in Namibia. We ask you to help us raise enough funds to keep us going. Please help us to continue providing quality education in music arts, dance and drama. It is our hope that the College of the Arts will greatly benefit from your generosity. With your support we hope to carry on our tradition of excellence – affordable, quality education by experts in their respective fields.

Those who regularly attend our Mardi Gras know that they can expect something special. Come and share in the excitement of Namibia’s major centre for music, arts, drama and dance, while spending lots of money and showing your support for arts education in our country.
