National Field Hockey Premier League gains momentum

Home National National Field Hockey Premier League gains momentum

WINDHOEK – The fourth round of matches in the popular Bank Windhoek’s National Field Hockey Premiership concluded with exciting clashes in Windhoek, last weekend.

Old time campaigners, Windhoek Old Boys (WOBSC) and Saints are enjoying a two-point cushion lead in the men’s and women’s Premiership, respectively.

Men’s Premier League
WOBSC confronted Deutscher Turn und Sportverein  (DTS) that saw the opening half tightly contested as with both teams sharing a 1-all stalemate.

However , WOBSC dominated the second half before winning comfortable via a 5-2 score line in their favour with  veteran Siyabonga Martins netting a double for a well deserved victory.

In other action, Saints locked horns with BDO Wanderers but it was the latter’s head coach, Johan Wehye, who pushed his team to the limit before succumbing to a 3-0 defeat.

Fagen Hansen’s goal opened the flood gates for the Saints, who were always the quickest on the second ball.
The Namibia University of Science and Technology’s (NUST) serial struggles continued as they went down to an embarrassing 9-0 against Saints. NUST on the other hand, are showing great tenacity and continue to improve.
On Sunday, BDO Wanderers had a date with WOBSC in a game WOBSC expected to claim a bonus point, but Wanderers had other ideas as they kept it  tight though WOBSC eventually triumphed 4-1 with Dylan Finch netting a hat trick for his team.

Women’s Premier League
Saints Angels played DTS and as widely predicted, it turned out to be a hard fought match, which paused in goalless stalemate at the break. The 2nd half saw goals from either side in quick succession taking the tie a 1-all draw.
Reigning champions, Saints, took on DTS and as anticipated, the national champions controlled the contest from the start before winning with a casual tally of 5 goals without a reply with five different players registering their names on the score sheet.

Elsewhere, WWOBSC came face to face with BDO Wanderers and showed some splendid form that propelled them to be crowned champions a couple of seasons ago. WOBSC enjoyed the upper hand over Wanderers in a match expected to win.

It was, however, the maroons that showed their mantle winning 3-1 with Wilri van Taak manufacturing a well-deserved brace. Here are the updated log tables.

The next round of matches takes place  on Saturday at the Wanderers and Windhoek Gymnasium fields in Windhoek, respectively. For more information, contact Jacobus Coetzee at Cell: 081 860 8955 or send an email to jacobusctz@gmail.com.
