Through the Student Brand Ambassadors (SBA) programme, the Namibian University of Science and Technology (NUST) hosted its first-ever annual fashion show over the weekend to raise funds for community engagement activities.

Etoto Primary School in the north Kamanjab in the Kunene Region will be the first school to benefit from the funds. Etoto currently has 285 learners from Grade 1 to 7 and the funds will help them with basic necessities, like school uniforms, blankets, stationery and food.

The school hostel has only two dormitories for boys and girls, which were built by the community itself. Food shortage is a perpetual problem though. There is no electricity.

Learners and staff also have to walk long distances to the local clinic to copy, print and fax documents. The learners previously had little study material, but were fortunate to receive a donation from the government in March.

The SBA believes that more community engagement projects are needed. Roger Kangootui, an SBA member says through their donation they intend to support and inspire the learners to finish their education. The SBA decided to work with schools to assist young in getting the best education possible.
