Police in Oshivelo are investigating a murder and suicide case in which a 25-year-old man stabbed to death his 28-year-old girlfriend before he committed suicide.
According to Deputy Regional Commander of Oshikoto Region, Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua, the deceased man was identified as Netumbo Amutenya Zee Amutenya and the deceased woman as Ndinelago Vaefeleni.
The incident took place at Omuhama Gwepandela cuca-shops at Cham Cham village near Oshivelo.
Vaefeleni sustained multiple fatal stab wounds to her chest and back. Amutenya commited suicide by hanging himself with a rope from the roof of the cuca-shop.
Both Amutenya and Vaefeleni’s bodies were discovered on Saturday afternoon. “Both deceased were found this afternoon, and a suicide note was found on the scene,” Katjiua said on Saturday. She did not reveal the content of the note.
This incident took place within a period of two weeks after another 28-year-old woman, identified as Hima Ndeyapo Nehale, was hacked to death by her boyfriend at King Kauluma village which is also in Oshivelo area.
Nehale was originally from Omuthiya while the boyfriend Evalistu Josef is an Angolan citizen. They were both residing at King Kauluma, where they were employed as domestic workers at different homesteads. Josef has since appeared in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court where he was denied bail.
The police are also investigating a culpable homicide case after a man died in an accident 18 kilometres outside Tsumeb on Saturday.
Katjiua said the accident occurred at around 15h30 while Dirk de Wee and his four passengers were on their way to Farm Suma, situated some 50km outside Tsumeb in the Otavi area.
They were travelling in a maroon Mazda pick-up with registration N4324T.
“It is alleged that De Wee lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle. The vehicle overturned and one of the passengers died,” the deputy commissioner said.
The 50-year-old De Wee was admitted to the Lombard Hospital in Tsumeb as he sustained head injuries. The rest of the passengers sustained slight injuries.
“A trailer with five cattle was hooked up to the vehicle. All of the cattle survived the accident,” Katjiua said.
She could not reveal the identity of the deceased as his next of kin were yet to be informed.
