A 57-year-old man, the owner of a local security company, is said to have committed suicide by shooting himself with 9-mm pistol here on Tuesday morning.

Kleophas Muranda, the owner of Jan-aal Security Company, shot himself at around 01h00 in the morning in his bedroom at his house. The incident occurred at house number C9 in Nautilus in Lüderitz.

Chief Inspector Benny Groeneward said the deceased was living with his daughter at the time he took his life. His daughter heard a noise that sounded like a gunshot at around 01h00 in the morning, but did not take much notice and went back to sleep.

At around 06h00 the daughter – as was the custom in their house – brought breakfast to her father’s room, but to her horror found him dead in a pool of blood. His daughter then immediately contacted the police. Other family members of the deceased have subsequently been informed of his death and an inquest docket has been opened.
Muranda did not leave any suicide note and the reason/s for his decision to take his own life remain unclear.
