A man and a woman died on the spot and a third person, a man, succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to hospital for emergency treatment following a road accident.

A Toyota pickup ferrying the three people who died was on its way from Divundu to Rundu when one of its tyres burst, causing it to overturn.

The accident occurred on Sunday night 15 km east of Rundu along the Trans-Zambezi Highway. Two of the deceased were passengers who were given a lift by an employee of the Ministry of Works and Transport, while the other deceased was an employee in the works ministry.

The fourth victim who survived is employed in the works ministry.
The white bakkie involved in the accident, with the registration number GRN 3820, a government vehicle, appears wrecked beyond repair. The Kavango East acting crime coordinator, Detective Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo, confirmed the accident and said the bakkie was on its way to Rundu.

Mubebo urged drivers to be cautious on the road, not to speed and check the vehicle’s tyres regularly.
“Follow the road rules and regulations. We are approaching the festive season and the road is busy.”
The names of the deceased and the survivor could not be released as the families were still to be informed.
