Aspiring Namibian presenter David Mbeha has made it to the top three of TLC’s Next Great Presenter.
Mbeha, alongside Mpiwa Bagwasi from Botswana and Star Khulu from South Africa went through two days of intense bootcamp training and various mentorship sessions, after which they were revealed as the top three.
Born in the Zambezi Region and raised in Grootfontein, Mbeha attributes his passion for presenting to a promise he once made to his late mother. “Every dream is possible and I made a promise to my mother before she passed on that I would pursue my dream of being a TV presenter,” Mbeha says, adding that presenting is an escape and he feels he has been given a talent for presenting for a reason.
The go-getting 20-year-old, who has an immense passion for life, believes it is a precious gift which must be cherished. “I’m excited to be selected as one of the Top 3 by a brand that unapologetically celebrates difference and tells authentic stories. Throughout this whole process TLC has allowed me to be me and I thank them for that. This experience has been humbling and rewarding and I thank everyone for their support so far and I look forward to the next stage,” said Mbeha.
As of Monday, October 28, viewers would have the opportunity to choose TLC’s Next Great Presenter by voting for their favourite among the three finalists. The lucky winner will be the channel’s first-ever African presenter and host TLC TOP 10, a brand new four-part series coming to TLC Entertainment, on DStv channel 172, this December.
Head judge, Lee Hobbs, who is the vice president of Channels for Emerging Business, Discovery Networks CEEMEA, says the 12 semifinalists were extremely talented and proved that they are all capable of having a successful career in the entertainment industry.
“The decision was tough and the judging panel spent hours deliberating as everyone was so amazing. In the end, we chose our Top 3 finalists based on their passion for TLC and how they came alive on camera. It’s now out of our hands, as the final decision will be left to our TLC viewers. We can’t wait crown our first African presenter,” said Hobbs.
