ONGWEDIVA – A 22-year-old man was admitted to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital with a stab wound allegedly inflicted by a friend who accused him of secretly cashing an e-wallet of N$100 which was sent to his phone.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the Caritos Bar at Ongwediva in the Oshana region around 15h30.
The Namibian Police’s weekly crime report indicates that the two men were drinking when a heated argument erupted between them over an e-wallet which was sent to the suspect’s phone, and was secretly withdrawn.
When New Era visited the victim, Thigiipo Shikongo yesterday at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, he narrated that his friend accused him because he was drunk. “Both of us were drunk. We spent the day at the bar drinking together,” he said.
Shikongo said the suspect eventually asked him where his brother was, and later told him to save his number on the suspect’s phone.
“He gave me his phone, so I saved my brother’s number. I gave back his phone, but I did not go through his messages,” he added.
Shikongo said the suspect went to the ATM to withdraw money, but unfortunately the money was already withdrawn.
“He came back, and attacked me. He pushed me, and later he took out a knife and stabbed me twice,” he recounted. In addition, he said the suspect’s phone was used by many people who were drinking at the bar. Shikongo said he opened a case against his friend, but he has not yet been arrested.
Police investigations continue into the matter.
