Drowning
A 44-year-old man allegedly drowned at Long Beach near Walvis Bay on Friday.
Police said the man, Peter Schneider, had gone swimming with a companion around 10h15 when the incident occurred.
His body was retrieved by two Navy divers and the police.
Escape
Six trial-awaiting inmates escaped from lawful custody at Rehoboth in the Hardap region on Saturday between 22h00 and 22h30.
Police said the escapees, aged 16, 18, 22, 28, 31 and 34, were to be tried for possession of drugs, theft and stock theft.
Suicide
A 63-year-old man allegedly committed suicide in Dorado Park, Windhoek.
Police said the man, identified as Benjamin Petrus, was found hanging from the roof at the braai area of his residence at around 08h00 on Sunday.
No suicide note was left behind.
Rape
A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 42-year-old stepfather at Gcamade in the Kavango West region on numerous occasions between August and November 2023.
The suspect has been arrested.
In a separate incident, the police also reported that a 31-year-old woman was allegedly raped on Saturday by two suspects who dragged her into bushes next to houses at the Dairy compound in Katima Mulilo.
The suspects allegedly grabbed the victim while she was walking around 03h00, and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
One of the suspects has been arrested. He is said to be 21 years old, while the other suspect has still not been traced. The arrested suspect was scheduled to make his first appearance in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
In a separate incident, a 46-year-old man was expected to appear in the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday after he allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl at around midnight on Saturday at farm Kum Kum in the Warmbad district.
It is alleged that the victim was visiting the bathroom when the suspect followed her and demanded that they have sex, which she refused.
The suspect allegedly overpowered the victim and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
Robbery
A man was allegedly robbed of his vehicle at Havana in Windhoek on Friday between 03h00 and 04h00. Police said the complainant woke up and heard his car being driven out of his yard. When he tried to open the door to his house, he found that it had been secured from the outside.
The silver Toyota Corolla was recovered in the Ongos farm area a few hours later.
The car was handed over to the rightful owner. No arrest has been made.
Break-ins
Items worth N$83 800 were allegedly stolen during a break-in at a house in Windhoek’s Otjomuise residential area on Saturday.
The police said four men allegedly broke into the house around 05h00, using a bolt cutter to cut through the fence.
They fled with items including one television set, three laptops, one computer, six watches, two cellphones and clothing.
The clothes and two laptops have been recovered, but there have been no arrests in connection with the matter.
In a similar incident in Otjomuise, a woman was held at gunpoint and robbed of items valued at N$33 600 on Saturday after a suspect gained entry to her residence.
The suspect allegedly removed a window in the living room around 04h00, before threatening the suspect with a firearm. He stole items including a TV, hard drive and cellphone.
The 33-year-old suspect has been arrested.
In another break-in, items worth N$58 000 were stolen from a house in Academia on Saturday between 02h00 and 02h30, after the robbers cut the electric fence to access the house.
A television, wallet and clothes were among the stolen items, which have not been recovered yet.
No arrests have been made.
